Plant Environmental Physiology Group - Annual Early Career Scientist Symposium
Snowdonia National Park, 17 – 19 May 2017
Pen-y-Pass YHA Wales LL55 4NY
This year we will tour the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology’s Solardome & Ozone Field Release System facility in Bangor, hear a keynote talk from the Director of CEH Professor Bridget Emmett, take a botanically themed walk to the beautiful Aber Falls, and enjoy a day of talks by early career researchers in plant physiology.
For its expansion, the Department of Plant Biophysics and Biochemistry in the Biology Centre of the Academy of Science, České Budějovice, Czech Republic, searches candidates for:
1) doctoral (PhD) student position (REEs)
2) doctoral (PhD) student position (Trichodesmium)
3) technical support scientist with experience in ICP-MS
MCM2017 will bring together leading experts and young researchers that develop microscopy methods and apply them in the fields of life and material sciences. It will also include a trade exhibition in order to encourage exchange between the producers of microscopy-related equipment and researchers.
- Stochastic geometry
- Spatial statistics
- 2D, 3D, and multi-spectral image analysis
- FIB-SEM imaging and processing
- Discrete geometry and topology
- Mathematical morphology
- Materials micro- and nano-structures
- Biology and medicine
- Soil science
- Image based industrial process control, real time aspects
- Virtual materials design/ Reconstruction of micro-structures
The meeting is regularly organized in Prague and it is focused on all aspects of auxin and cytokinin reasearch.
For 2018, we continue in the original concept and include the interactions with other plant hormones and stimuli.
A focused topic, a reasonable number of participants and an idyllic environment appear to be the ingredients for the success of previous meetings. In addition to the scientific programme, there were always ample opportunities to interact with colleagues and friends for in-depth discussions in delightful settings.
Forest Ecology group is currently seeking for a colleague for their team specialized in data management. You will become a leader of the data management and participate in extracting, cleaning and manipulating large quantities of environmental/ecological data. In particular you will be responsible to keep SQL data-base running, extracting and adding new data, and providing simple summary and graphical output.
Two PhD positions open in a project on the dynamics of interacting plant, pollinator and seed predator communities in South African Fynbos in the groups of Matthias Schleuning (BiK-F Frankfurt) and Frank Schurr (University of Hohenheim).

The plant community ecology lab. headed by Dr. Merav Seifan, in the Institutes for Desert Research in Ben-Gruion Univeristy, Sde Boker campus, Israel, is looking for a motivated and curious PhD student The study is part of a new German-Israeli collaboration project “Population- and community- level trait variability in changing arid environments” (with Dr. Katrin Meyer, Georg-August Univeristy Göttingen). The work will focus on field and garden experiments with the native annual plant Anastatica hierochuntica (the True Rose of Jericho) in relation to the plant spatiotemporal distribution.
