Strandveld

Coastal regions on deep, well-drained sands are covered by the Strandveld vegetation type. Because of the relatively high abundance of succulent plants, the vegetation does not burn easily and recovery after fire usually takes many years. Strandveld vegetation stands somewhat outside the biome concept, because each biome that includes seashore has its own strandveld vegetation subtype (i.e. Western Strandveld for Fynbos biome, Namaqualand Strandveld for Succulent Karoo biome, etc.).
