Welcome to the home page of the Phycology research group in Prague, Czech Republic.
Phycology is a branch of study dealing with taxonomy, cell biology and ecology of algae, which are mainly autotrophic non-vascular organisms classified into several empires including
Plantae, Protozoa and
Chromista. At the Faculty of Science phycology is taught within the master study program of biology, in specialization Systematics and ecology of nonvascular plants. The application of phycology is in the fields of water management (drinking water treatment, sewage treatment), bioindication of environment etc.

Apr 2011 - Frederik Leliaert (University of Gent, Belgium) is giving a lecture about the cytological diversification and molecular evolution in the green seaweeds (Ulvophyceae) - 12th April, 15:00.
Mar 2011 - Dorothee Langenbach (University of Cologne, Germany) is visiting our group for six weeks.
